André Téchiné (b. 13th March, 1943) wrote criticism for Cahiers du cinema during the 1960s, and made his first film, Paulina s’en va, in 1969. Since then he has become one of the most important directors in French cinema, known for his atmospheric and emotionally charged films such as Les soeurs Bronté (The Bronte Sisters, 1979), Ma saison préférée (My Favorite Season, 1985), and Les roseaux sauvages (Wild Reeds, 1994). He is renowned for his ability to draw strong performances out of his lead actresses, including Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Adjani.
