Jacques Doniol-Valcroze (March 15th 1920 – October 6 1989) was a co-founder of both the ciné-club Objective 49 and the journal Cahiers du cinema and a prolific film reviewer. His first films as a director, L’eau à la bouche (A Game for Six Lovers, 1960), and Le coeur battant (The French Game, 1960) were well received by critics, but too reserved for the wider public, and he was soon eclipsed by the second generation of New Wave directors.
